The employees at Larson Manufacturing Headquarters in Brookings, SD set out on a mission to raise funds for The Neighborhoods Nursing Home.
The Larson Customer Care team spearheaded the campaign, ‘Holiday Shears, for the second year in a row. The campaign was set to raise funds to donate haircuts to the residents, a service not included.
One of the many motivating factors behind this campaign came from two LARSON customer service agents’ experience.
“One thing I knew that wasn’t included in their living expense was having their hair cut, permed, or styled. My sister would do this for my mother twice a week while she lived there and The Neighborhoods would let her use the beauty salon,” customer service agent Susan Crooks said.
Shortly after, Crook’s sister joined another stylist and began doing hair at The Residents. The charge of services was simply the cost of products, keeping fees as minimal as possible.
“There are many that cannot afford the nominal fee,” Crooks said. Having a scheduled hair appointment gave many residents something look forward to, Crooks recalls. “It was a bit of “normal” life living to have a hair appointment.”
Larson employees raised $541.50 and the Larson Foundation matched the amount with the grand total of $1,083.50 raised. The funds enabled 108 residents to receive haircuts free of charge.
